Robin C. Wood,
freelance writer and member of NACC, recently wrote the following words about the chorus
which were published in a local newspaper and certainly captures the heart and soul of the
organization:
Great material, however, is only
part of what makes the NACC concerts so popular with audiences. One member of the audience
said to me after a concert, "They all look like theyre having such a great
time." There is an infectious spirit of enthusiasm among the chorus members. One
cant help but be caught up in the jubilance while they perform. Its no wonder,
after performing together for 20 years and more as many of them have. Mary Desautels, the
groups historian and a 27 year veteran of the chorus, says, "I like to think of
it as a big, extended family." The friendly atmosphere is passed on to new members as
well. It is what hooked me when I went to my first few rehearsals. Sometimes I wonder what
it is that compels all these people (myself included) to drag themselves wearily out to
rehearsals after a long day. The answer seems to be that rehearsals work like therapy. By
the end of the evening, everyone is rejuvenated, whistling down the halls with a spring in
their step.
